The MC-Multilam principle has been successfully used in scientific research for many years. The 2,3-tonne supraconducting dipole
magnet can generate a magnetic field of more than 8 Tesla (cooled to 1,8°K with superfluid helium). To the magnetic field to a frequency of 1Hz, the whole
cryostat must rotate about its own axis while maintaining the magnetic field. And this while carrying a continuous current at a temperature of 1,8K.
Since this device had to be mobile, the choice fell upon a plug connection using MC contact technology. Contact is made by means of an electric servo system.
To provide the specified tolerance requirement, the B120 spec. sockets made by Multi-Contact were equipped with LA-D Multilams bands.
